Deployment options for EPM

Confused on all this “cloud” business for Oracle EPM?  There are a few options for those implementing an EPM environment.

  1. Traditional On-Premise – Own the Hardware and Software
    1. Internally host full use hardware inside your data center
    2. Internally or Externally handle day-to-day administration/maintenance
  2. Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS) – Rent the Hardware, Own the software
    1. Externally host full use hardware to a cloud provider
    2. Internally or Externally handle day-to-day administration/maintenance
  3. Software as a Service (SaaS) – Rent the Hardware, Rent the Software
    1. Externally host non-accessible single use hardware to a cloud provider
    2. Externally handle day-to-day administration/maintenance

Remember, going to a Software as a Service model, you do not OWN the software.  If you ever decide to leave and move to an IAAS or on-Premise, you will still have to purchase the software.

Each has their pro’s and cons.  Don’t get caught up on simply considering price.  For more information take a look at my Oracle Profit Magazine Article:
